Search Engine Marketing

SEM paid ads are the first three listings at the top of the page. They also appear on the right hand column of search results.

SEM ads only appear on a specific search engine you purchased ads on. If you only purchased SEM sponsored ads from Google Adwords, then you will only appear on Google searches and Google Search Partners websites. Clicks VS Impressions

CPC (Cost Per Click) is exactly what it sounds like. Each click costs money. The cost per click depends on the keyword. The level of competitiveness for each keyword plays a role in the cost per click. Low, medium and high are the levels of competitiveness. The cost per click is also determined with bids. Someone can bid to pay more than the existing cost. Hence, raising the cost per click for that keyword.

Impressions are ads that were seen but not clicked on. Impressions appear on Google Searches. CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impressions) are ads that can only be viewed and not clicked. CPM ads do not appear on Google Searches. Instead, they appear on Google Search Partners websites.

Search Networks use CPC (Cost Per Click) and CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impressions). A Search Network is. This option can display ads on Google searches and Google Search Partners websites. Display Networks use CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impressions). This option does not display ads on Google searches. Instead, ads are displayed on Google Search Partners websites. Search Networks with Display Networks use CPC and CPM ads. This option charges per click and not for impressions.
